As a Senior UX Designer, I helped reimagine the next generation of the electronic health record by designing improved workflows for medications, labs, and other clinical orders — leveraging AI to deliver intelligent suggestions that improve efficiency and accuracy while creating a more intuitive, satisfying experience.
Clinicians were navigating over 155,000 diagnosis codes through an outdated search experience, which increased cognitive load and the risk of documentation errors. Every additional click during a patient visit is a click away from the patient.
I partnered with researchers to uncover the real pain points and search behaviors clinicians relied on — then designed a Diagnosis Code Assistant that uses guided search, intelligent recommendations, and clear decision pathways to simplify code discovery.
Rather than bolting AI onto the existing interface, I designed clinical decision support to appear exactly where a clinician is already looking — inline with problems, medications, and vitals — with sourcing shown so trust is never assumed.
Focused on accessibility, I also guided product teams in redesigning legacy layouts and code, embedding accessibility-first practices that achieved federal Section 508 compliance and enabled adoption by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
