As part of a broader initiative to modernize a traditional EHR system, I designed the order-management experience for medications, labs, and other clinical orders—removing ambiguity and complexity to make the process significantly more efficient. I partnered with the Human Factors team, using user research to refine workflows end to end. My designs also incorporated AI to surface smarter suggestions and auto-complete order details based on the patient’s condition.
Clinicians start the day with an at-a-glance schedule that surfaces AI-generated visit summaries for each patient before they walk in, cutting down on chart-digging between appointments. I designed a micro-component used in the schedule.
An embedded assistant answers clinical questions inline and cites its source, so providers can verify information without leaving the chart. I incorporated clinical orders into the assistant for ordering ease, defining how the order workflow should behave within the assistant to reduce complexity and speed up the process.
